Naturalising (or naturalizing)

To naturalise, or naturalize, plants is the process of growing them as if they were in the wild, establishing them as if they were native to the area.

The term is most often used with bulbs when they are allowed to increase naturally to form drifts of colour. This is often done with bulbs planted under trees (use dwarf bulbs under newly planted trees so they don’t compete too much with the tree), in lawns (use very early flowering bulbs so they have time to die down before you do your first mow of the year) or in woodlands.
